Deleted Record History guide
Zendesk deleted records: recovery and history
Use documented Zendesk recovery options and validate the result, with earlier exports available for historical reference.

Start with native recovery
Zendesk keeps deleted tickets recoverable for 30 days unless they are permanently deleted earlier. Start in the Deleted tickets view and use the permitted recovery action. Permanent deletion removes submitted content and associated files; incremental exports can still carry scrubbed ticket records. See Deleting tickets.
Confirm identity and visibility
Record the native ID, customer, requester and last known dates before acting. Check whether filters, permissions, an archive or a merge explain the missing item. Ask an authorized administrator to confirm the record’s current state.
Check the recovered record
Review whether the original record is recoverable, merely represented by a scrubbed export row, or present in an earlier archive. For a retained copy, preserve the ticket ID and capture date with the conversation.
Use earlier captured history
An earlier export can show what was retained before the record changed. Keep its capture date and source identifiers visible, and restrict internal notes to the appropriate audience. For file evidence, open the saved file itself and retain its parent-record reference.
Plan the next capture through the Zendesk export guide. Related native documentation: Exporting ticket, user, or organization data from your account. The deleted-record history use case connects recovery preparation to longer-term archive access.
Distinguish deletion metadata from conversation history
Zendesk’s incremental export documentation describes scrubbing after permanent deletion. Only minimal ticket identity and references remain for 90 days after permanent deletion, then disappear from exports. Preserve conversation content before deletion. A scrubbed record can help reconcile an ID, but it does not contain the former discussion. Use the Zendesk export guide to check format omissions and timing.
